Arm and Back Liposuction in Seoul: When One Week Is Enough
· liposeoul editor
Raise your arm to shoulder height and have someone measure how far the skin hangs below it. That number decides whether arm and back liposuction fits a one-week trip to Seoul. If the skin hangs less than 5 cm, the fullness is mostly fat and your flight home is short, one session and 7 days are enough. A long-haul flight, sag of 5-10 cm or crepey skin stretches the stay to 10-14 days, and sag over 10 cm points to an arm lift.

Can arm and back liposuction be done in one week in Seoul?
Yes. When arm skin sags less than 5 cm with the arm raised to 90° and the fullness is mostly fat, the arms, underarms and bra line can be treated in one session within a 7-day stay. In a 2024 Aesthetic Surgery Journal study of 50 women, the 32 patients in that range had liposuction alone, with about 220 mL removed from each arm. A week covers the consultation, the surgery and the first check-ups, while the final contour takes about 6 months to appear.
The three zones form one curve. Slimming only the back of the arm makes the armpit and bra roll look bigger and leaves a ridge where the arm meets the chest wall. That is why we plan them as a single session.
Liposuction alone, RFAL or arm lift: which fits your skin?
Sag under 5 cm suits liposuction alone, 5-10 cm suits liposuction with RFAL, and over 10 cm calls for an arm lift. This matches the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). ASPS places mild-to-moderate looseness with good elasticity in the liposuction group, with or without an energy device. Significant excess skin goes to an arm lift (brachioplasty), which leaves a scar from the elbow into the armpit.
Zhu, Zhao and Li, the authors of the 2024 study, replaced older grading systems of up to 9 subcategories with one measurement. With the arm at 90°, they measured from the lowest point of the hanging skin to the groove under the arm. Under 5 cm counted as mild, 5-10 cm as moderate and over 10 cm as severe.
For moderate looseness, the best data come from radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL), which heats the tissue under the skin while fat is removed. A 2023 Aesthetic Plastic Surgery study followed 120 patients, and none needed conversion to an arm lift. Arm circumference fell by an average of 3.75 cm at 6 months, and satisfaction rose from 35% to 87%. Both studies are single-center retrospective series, so their numbers show a realistic range, not a guarantee.
| Your profile | Plan | 2024 study: patients, removed per arm, satisfied | Stay in Seoul |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sag under 5 cm, firm skin, short flight home | Liposuction alone: arms (360°), underarm, bra line | 32 of 50, about 220 mL, 78% | 7 days |
| Sag under 5 cm, long-haul flight | Same plan | Same group | 10-14 days |
| Crepey inner-arm skin or an uneven earlier result | Liposuction, with the stem cell option discussed | - | 10-14 days |
| Sag of 5-10 cm, or major weight loss | Liposuction + RFAL | 13 of 50, about 200 mL, 90% | 10-14 days |
| Sag over 10 cm | Arm lift + liposuction | 5 of 50, about 350 mL, 96% | 14 days or more |
The stay column is our own planning judgment. It is based on the ASPS recovery guidance for arm surgery: two weeks of restricted arm movement after an arm lift and no strenuous activity until week 4.
The satisfaction column carries a warning. The mildest group rated its result lowest, so expect a little looseness to remain even when liposuction alone is the right call. According to ASPS, people who lost a lot of weight with GLP-1 medications or bariatric surgery make up much of the demand for upper-arm surgery. They usually belong in the last two rows.
How is arm and back liposuction designed as one contour?
We mark you standing, first with the arm down and then raised to 90°, which is the position used to grade laxity. The back of the arm, the inner arm, the underarm and the bra roll are drawn as one line. The upper back over the shoulder blade joins the plan only when it continues the same curve.
The volume stays modest. Assuming both arms are treated in a mild case, the 2024 study's 220 mL per arm comes to about 440 mL before the underarm and bra line are added. If a plan promises far more from a slim arm, ask how. We leave a thin, even layer of fat over the back of the arm and feather it into the armpit and back, because taking too much fat from under loose skin is what leaves an uneven surface.
An underarm bulge that feels firm or changes with your menstrual cycle may be breast tissue, so ask for an examination or ultrasound before anyone treats it as fat. If the list grows to the full upper back and the flanks, ask for the total estimated volume and operating time, and which zones could wait for a second trip.
TheLINE Plastic Surgery has performed more than 80,000 liposuction procedures since 2007. The surgeon who examines you draws this line and performs the surgery, so the blending between zones stays in one pair of hands from start to finish.
Where stem cell liposuction fits
Stem cell liposuction is worth considering when the problem is skin quality rather than the amount of fat. Part of the harvested fat is processed to concentrate its stromal vascular fraction (SVF), the cell-rich part of fat tissue, and then put back rather than simply removed. TheLINE's stem cell liposuction was developed in the clinic's own research institute. We raise it when the inner-arm skin is thin and crepey, when an earlier result is uneven, or when the harvested fat will be used elsewhere. The upper arm yields only about 200-350 mL of fat per arm, so ask whether enough remains after processing. The tightening data for moderately loose arms, including the 3.75 cm reduction, come from RFAL. Ask what the stem cell step adds in time and price, and ask to see results in arms with crepey skin.
When can you fly home after arm and back liposuction?
After liposuction alone, a short flight home on day 7 is usually workable once you have had a final check. With a long-haul flight or added RFAL, plan on 10-14 days.
| Time after surgery | What usually happens | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Days 0-2 | Numbing fluid drains from the small incisions; swelling peaks | Rest, garment on, short walks |
| Days 3-7 | First check-up | Garment on at all times, gentle arm movement, no lifting |
| Weeks 2-4 | Bruising fades | Desk work; strenuous activity from week 4 (ASPS) |
| Months 1-3 | Firmness and small lumps settle; scars mature | Photo check-ins with LINE Care |
| Months 3-6 and beyond | Final contour appears | Judge the result |
The most common reason to move a flight is a seroma, a pocket of fluid under the skin. A 2025 Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum series looked at argon plasma-assisted arm liposuction. Ultrasound found minor seromas in 5 arms (16.7%), averaging 15.4 cc, and one lasted a month. Ask for an ultrasound check for seroma before you board.
A 7-day trip (6 nights) suits short flights within Asia. Day 1 is consultation and marking, day 2 is surgery, and day 3 is the first check. You rest in the garment on days 4-6, then have a final check and fly on day 7. A 14-day trip (13 nights) adds a second check around day 10 and suits long-haul flights or RFAL. On the plane, take an aisle seat, keep the garment on, walk every hour and drink water.
How much does arm and back liposuction cost in Seoul in 2026?
On published 2026 Seoul price lists, the arms, underarm and accessory breast or bra line together cost ₩2.5-3.5M (about US$1,786-2,500). The back of the arm alone is about ₩1.9M ($1,357) and the full arm (360°) is ₩2.0-2.5M ($1,429-1,786). Adding the upper back brings the price to ₩3.5M or more ($2,500 or more). These are other Seoul clinics' market rates, converted at ₩1,400 per US$, and not a TheLINE quote. Check whether each quote includes anesthesia, tests, the compression garment, aftercare and 10% VAT.
The length of your stay changes the total almost as much as an extra zone does. Assuming both arms (360°), the underarm and the bra line are treated in one session at ₩2.5M before VAT, with lodging at ₩150,000 a night:
- Surgery plus 10% VAT: ₩2,750,000 (about US$1,964)
- 7-day trip, 6 nights: ₩900,000 lodging, total ₩3,650,000 (about US$2,607)
- 14-day trip, 13 nights: ₩1,950,000 lodging, total ₩4,700,000 (about US$3,357)
The second week adds ₩1,050,000 (about US$750), not counting the garment or flights. On the same basis, adding the upper back raises the surgery cost to at least ₩3,850,000 with VAT. That is ₩1,100,000 more, about the price of the second week. For a long-haul traveller, the extra week in Seoul is the better use of that money, and the upper back can wait for a later trip.
What safety checks should a combined session have?
A combined session needs a dedicated anesthesiologist, limits on total volume and operating time, and a check for seroma before you leave Korea. Complications in the 2024 study totalled 6%: one seroma (2%) and two cases of scar widening (4%). Both rates are low, but either problem can change a flight date.
At TheLINE, a dedicated anesthesiologist handles anesthesia and monitoring, and the surgeon who examined you performs the operation. LINE Care continues your aftercare once you are home. Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) has designated TheLINE as a foreign-patient attraction institution, and you should check for that designation at any clinic you consider. MOHW counted 2.01 million foreign patients in 2025. About 233,000 (11.2%) came for plastic surgery, up 64.3%, and 87.2% of all foreign patients were treated in Seoul.
Ask whether you will have local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, and who monitors your oxygen and vital signs. Also ask how the clinic screens travellers for blood clot risk, such as hormone use, BMI or a previous DVT. Before you leave, collect an operative note (zones, volume, technique, anesthesia), your medication list, garment instructions and an English discharge summary for your own doctor.
How to plan arm and back liposuction in Seoul from abroad
Two measurements and a set of photos settle most of these decisions before you book a flight.
- Raise your arm to shoulder height and have someone measure from the lowest point of the hanging skin to the groove under the arm. Then pinch the back of the arm and note how thick the fold is.
- Take front, back and side photos, first with your arms down and then raised to 90°.
- Send both measurements, your weight history (including any GLP-1 use) and your planned flight date.
- Before paying a deposit, ask which zones the price covers and whether the garment is included. Ask how many aftercare visits there are, at what amount of sag the surgeon would choose RFAL or an arm lift, and the earliest safe flight date for your plan.
- Book 7 days for liposuction alone with a short flight home, or 10-14 days for a long-haul flight, RFAL or crepey skin.
- Back home, wear the garment as instructed, send photo updates through LINE Care and judge the shape at 6 months, not at 6 weeks.
FAQ
Am I a candidate for arm and back liposuction?
Most likely, if the fullness is mainly fat and your arm skin sags less than 5 cm with the arm raised to 90°. In the 2024 Aesthetic Surgery Journal study, 32 of 50 women fit this profile and had liposuction alone. More sag or recent major weight loss usually means RFAL or an arm lift. How much fat is removed from the arms?
About 200-350 mL per arm in the 2024 study. Liposuction changes your shape more than your weight, so the difference shows in the mirror more than on the scale. How long do I wear the compression garment?
Wear it at all times through the first week, including on the flight home. Your surgeon sets the total length of time at your final check, based on your swelling and the zones treated. Will there be scars?
Liposuction uses small entry points at the elbow, in the underarm crease and along the bra line, where they are hidden in folds or under underwear. An arm lift leaves a longer scar from the elbow into the armpit, or a short one inside the armpit. ASPS notes that these scars keep improving over the first three months. When can I fly home after arm liposuction?
After liposuction alone with a short flight, you can usually fly on day 7 once you have had a final check. Allow 10-14 days for a long-haul flight or RFAL, so that any seroma can be found and treated before you board. Will I see the final result before I leave Seoul?
No. Swelling and firmness settle over 1-3 months, and the final contour is judged at about 6 months. The 2024 study assessed results at an average of 7.5 months. The bottom line
One session of arm and back liposuction fits a 7-day Seoul trip when your arm skin sags less than 5 cm and the flight home is short. A long-haul flight, added RFAL or crepey skin extends the stay to 10-14 days. Sag over 10 cm calls for an arm lift and a stay of 14 days or more. This week, take your two measurements, photograph your arms down and raised, and decide how many days you can stay before you compare quotes. Send those photos for a free photo consultation, or message us on WhatsApp with your measurements and flight date, and we will tell you which plan and length of stay suit your body.
